Participation in AA-AAS

For a student with disabilities, the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team makes the decision about how the student participates in each assessment based on specific participation criteria. Some students with significant cognitive disabilities who are unable to participate in the general assessment, with or without accommodations, participate in alternate assessments based on alternate achievement standards (AA-AAS).

An English learner (EL) with a significant cognitive disabilities may participate in both an AA-AAS for assessment of academic content and an alternate assessment of English language proficiency (ELP) .
