The modules use a collaborative decision-making process among educators, parents, and students who are English learners, to decide appropriate accessibility features and accommodations for individual students, and guides K-12 teachers to facilitate and document high quality decision making about accessible instruction and assessment for English learners.

  • Making Decisions for Everyone Training Module

    This online professional development module gives educators the knowledge and tools they need to make, implement, and evaluate sound decisions about accessibility features for students in their classrooms in situations teachers encounter across the school year. This self-paced module, developed by the Diamond Project, guides teachers through accessibility decision-making using a fun, interactive approach, focusing on one of three students: Beau (a student who is struggling with some reading-related tasks), Daisy (a student with an Individualized Education Program), or Ana (an English learner). The module, offered by the Minnesota Department of Education through the University of Minnesota, provides access to: reference materials, a set of post course group discussion questions, links to a YouTube collection of brief videos by NCEO experts contained in the online course, and a continually updated list of related videos produced by NCEO.

  • IVARED Learning Module
    Formats: Online

    A set of five online learning modules helping educators make good assessment decisions for students who are English language learners (ELLs) with disabilities. Access to the modules is free and open to all educators. Educators can register for a username and password, and then log in whenever they like and work their way through the modules. Most users take 70-90 minutes to complete all five sections.

  • Learning Modules on English Learners (ELs) with Disabilities

    This free training helps educators look at important issues surrounding students who are ELs with disabilities. Participants follow the story of Emma, a middle school student with a learning disability, while also providing additional case studies of students with other disabilities who need accommodations to access instruction and assessments. The training especially models how educators and parents or guardians can work together to make and implement good decisions about accommodations as members of the featured student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) team.

  • Online Training to Improve Accommodations Decision Making

    This free training includes case-based video clips for five interactive, multi-media professional development modules. Educators are coached on best practices in how to guide, select, administer, and evaluate the use of accommodations in instruction and assessment, and are provided models on how educators and parents or guardians can work together to make and implement good decisions about accommodations as members of a students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP) team. NCEO developed the training in collaboration with the state of Alabama, but the training content is not state specific.
