Participants
The author of the study, who is a college student at North Carolina State University with Alport syndrome, completed an autoethnography of his experiences.
Dependent Variable
A literature review on the benefits and barriers to technology for students with disabilities, an autoethnography of the experiences of a student with a disability using technology, and digital storytelling consisting of observations by associates of the student with a disability regarding the benefits and barriers associated with the provision of technology use were conducted.
Findings
There is a need for training for faculty and staff to help them understand the needs of students with disabilities, such as a need to provide a range of accommodations for individual student needs, including extended exam time. Furthermore, collaboration was needed between faculty, staff, and the University’s disability offices to ensure that students receive appropriate accommodations promptly.
