Specialized setting or controlled environment (including more comfortable seating, better lighting, and having a familiar proctor to reduce test anxiety) was examined in comparison with a standard testing environment.
Participants
Ten students in grades 6 and 7 who were identified as having a specific learning disability in mathematics participated in the math assessments.
Dependent Variable
Students completed the iReady math assessment and the Westside Test Anxiety Scale measure under both the controlled environment and the standard testing environment.
Findings
Eight of ten students showed reduced test anxiety levels under the controlled environment compared to the standard testing environment However, only half of the participants scored higher on the iReady mathematics assessment when taken in the controlled environment.
