Summary
Accommodation
Accommodations for postsecondary students with learning disabilities were reviewed and discussed.
Participants
Research on accommodations for postsecondary students was included in a literature review. Studies were identified from ERIC, HM Wilson, EBSCOHost, PsycARTICLES, and PsycINFO databases, as well as a variety of journals, using search terms such as “accommodations,” “assistive technology,” “learning disability,” “postsecondary education,” and “transition.”
Dependent Variable
Themes related to accommodations for postsecondary students with learning disabilities were extracted from the reviewed literature.
Findings
Emergent themes included: efficacy of accommodations at the postsecondary level, promising practices for the use of alternative media, and implications for future research agenda. Accommodations with empirical support included extended time and instructional strategies. Other accommodations that were discussed but had less empirical evidence included assistive technology and alternative media.
