Summary
Accommodation
Assessment accommodations were not specified; instead, the focus was on faculty attitudes toward and experiences with providing accommodations in general at junior colleges in Belize.
Participants
Eight faculty members from seven junior colleges in Belize participated. The faculty taught various subjects including business, tourism, English, architecture and education, with teaching experience ranging from 8–35 years.
Dependent Variable
Focus groups were conducted using a semi-structured protocol that explored faculty attitudes toward students with disabilities and toward accommodations. Demographic information was also collected from participants.
Findings
Faculty expressed positive attitudes toward students with disabilities and willingness to provide accommodations but indicated they lacked adequate training and resources to effectively support these students. Faculty identified the need for professional development, clearer institutional policies, and better support services to improve access to accommodations for students with disabilities.
