Findings
The illustration accommodation in this study used with English language learners (ELLs) and non-ELLs for a science assessment did not significantly impact performance of either group during the assessment. The authors discuss possible cognitive explanations for this finding, how to improve the quality of vignette illustrations as an accommodation, and suggest this as an area for further research.
