Findings

Language and dialect differences in English language learners (ELLs) show the unique set of strengths and weaknesses that may present during National Assessment of Educational Progress mathematics assessment items. Measurement error may result from language and dialect differences among ELLs during assessment, which leads to the need for considering broad linguistic groups when evaluating language variation and score variation.
